SUMMARY:meetMED at Cairo Sustainable Energy Week 2024
DESCRIPTION:meetMED is delighted to be the “Sustainability Partner” of the second edition of Cairo Sustainable Energy Week (CSEW ( https://csew.net )) which aims to facilitate discussions, analyses, and evaluations of the challenges and opportunities in developing and implementing sustainable energy policies in the Arab League Member-States. The focus lies on ensuring accessible and dependable energy services for all segments of society. Held under the auspices of the Arab League and the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, CSEW is organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE ( https://rcreee.org )) and took place in Cairo, Egypt from October 1-3, 2024.\nDuring the event, meetMED showcased its green initiatives through presentations and exhibitions that focused on promoting energy efficiency measures across building and appliance sectors.  \nOn the second day, meetMED took part in the 4th UfM Energy and Climate Business Forum ( https://ufmsecretariat.org/4th-ufm-energy-climate-business-forum-2024/ ) held on the sidelines of CSEW. This high-level event emphasized the vital role of the private and public sectors in driving sustainable energy transitions and climate action in the Mediterranean region. \nThe 4th UfM Energy and Climate Business Forum aimed to showcase regional efforts in sustainable energy transition, promote innovative financing solutions, and stimulate collaboration among international financial institutions, the private sector, local authorities, and entrepreneurs.\nThe forum was inaugurated by H.E. Christian Berger, Head of EU Delegation to Egypt; Ouael Chouchene ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/ouaelchouchene/ ), Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Tunisia; Grammenos Mastrojeni, Senior Deputy Secretary General, Union for the Mediterranean ( https://ufmsecretariat.org ); Maged Mahmoud ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmagedkmahmoud/ ), Technical Director, RCREEE; Ahmed Badr ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/ahmed-badr-4abb45157/ ), Director, project facilitation and support, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA ( https://www.irena.org )); Noureddine Yassaa ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/noureddine-yassaa-8666766a/ ) Commissioner for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE ( https://www.cerefe.gov.dz/fr/accueil/ )).\nThe event featured a series of sessions focused on green finance, funding mechanisms for climate action, and the role of multilateral development banks and carbon markets in fostering a just energy transition and sustainable development in the region.\nmeetMED session “Access to Green Finance” was moderated by Roberta Bonoitti, the Sectary General of MEDENER ( https://www.medener.org ) which explored financing sustainable energy projects in the MENA region, focusing on models such as sustainable energy funds, green bonds, venture capital, and public-private partnerships (PPPs). The session delved into the dynamics of PPPs, including their benefits, challenges, and successful case studies. Additionally, it discussed the role of financial institutions in supporting decentralized renewable energy and energy efficiency, particularly in buildings and appliances.\nH.E Rania A. Al-Mashat ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/rania-a-al-mashat-a00899182/ ), Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation of Egypt, concluded the forum with very impactful remarks, emphasizing ( https://x.com/UfMSecretariat/status/1841816934532170212 ) the country’s commitment to sustainable energy transition in the face of climate change.\n\nCSEW was accompanied by an exhibition of key public and private sector actors involved in the environmental transition, as well as representatives of civil society and international organizations. meetMED booth received many stakeholders visitors who acknowledged the project’s key achievements.\n
