SUMMARY:Online Workshop on Energy Demand and Energy Efficiency Modelling Practices
DESCRIPTION:In the framework of the Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region (meetMED) project, funded by the European Union, the French Ecological Transition Agency (ADEME ( https://www.ademe.fr/ )), ENERDATA ( https://www.enerdata.net ), and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE ( https://rcreee.org/ )) are organizing the Third Online Workshop about” Energy Demand and Energy Efficiency Modelling Practices” on November 13th, 2024, 10:00 – 12:00 CET.\nModeling energy demand, energy efficiency, and renewable energy is an important tool for decision-makers to assist in policies designing and implementation. Practices are in place in the beneficiary countries of the meetMED project through national and regional modelling initiatives such as OME, the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie (Mediterranean Energy Observatory). Alongside the academic work, energy modeling is performed in project’s affiliated energy agencies or within the ministries by utilizing various models and energy efficiency scenarios.\nThis workshop is the third of its kind organized by meetMED. The main goal of this session is to compare results from recent long-term scenarios on energy demand and decarbonization (2025-2050) conducted in Morocco, Tunisia, and Jordan, along with findings from regional initiatives (OMEC & UNEP).\nSpecifically, the workshop will discuss results among countries on the following topics:\n\nEnergy Efficiency and Sufficiency: How are these expected to slow down energy demand growth in the future? What are the GDP and demographic projections compared to past trends?\nGHG Emission Reduction: What could be the contribution of energy efficiency and sufficiency to reducing greenhouse gas emissions?\nSectoral Improvements: What is the potential for energy efficiency and sufficiency enhancements in South Mediterranean countries across various sectors (industry, buildings, transport)?\nElectricity Share Prospects: What are the prospects for increasing the share of electricity in different sectors and end-uses, and which technologies will support this?\nHydrogen’s Role: What place is expected for hydrogen and hydrogen-derived products in energy demand and the overall energy system?\nRenewable Contributions: What could be the contribution of renewables to final consumption and the power mix?\n\nSince these modeling activities are generally developed in collaboration with relevant ministries, this workshop is open, at the discretion of meetMED national experts, to relevant ministries, academics, and data providers.\nClick here ( https://meetmed.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Agenda-Workshop-Modelling-November-13th-fvf.pdf ) for the agenda \n\n
