SUMMARY:National Seminar on Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings  & Training on the Info/Energy Centers Tool
DESCRIPTION:Beirut – As part of the meetMED II project meetMED II project (Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region), funded by the European Union,we are pleased to announce the upcoming National Seminar on Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings & Training on the Info/Energy Centers Tool. This important event is taking place in Beirut , Lebanon and is organised in close collaboration with  the Lebanese Association for Energy Saving and Environment (ALMEE ( https://www.almeelebanon.com )),  the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) and Geres ( https://www.geres.eu/en/ ). This seminar aims to equip local authorities with tools, knowledge, and practical guides for energy efficiency in buildings, helping them take action on energy and climate transitions.\nContext and Overview\nIn the absence of a comprehensive National Energy and Climate Management Plan that addresses both mitigation and adaptation to climate change, Lebanese local authorities play a pivotal role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development. They possess the capacity to implement local policies focused on environmental protection, energy consumption management, and the promotion of renewable energy. Such initiatives are essential for combating climate change and ensuring the health and well-being of citizens.\nLebanese local authorities have already launched several initiatives, notably through the UNDP’s CEDRO V projects and the CLIMAMED project funded by the European Union (EU). Over 20 municipalities have adopted action plans targeting energy and climate issues.\nWhile the Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP) has been a significant step forward, the development of a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) is highly recommended for municipalities looking to refine their energy strategies and better address their vulnerability to climate change impacts. This approach not only enhances local resilience but also facilitates access to national and international funding for concrete project implementation.\nGiven the growing challenges posed by climate change—such as prolonged droughts, extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and water shortages—municipalities must adopt planning strategies that incorporate these critical aspects. It is essential for local authorities to identify the necessary levers to bolster their territories’ resilience to these challenges.\nSeminar Objectives\n\nInspire Lebanese municipalities by sharing successful practices from France and other Mediterranean countries, helping to identify actionable strategies tailored for Lebanon and effectively integrate climate considerations into local planning.\nDisseminate a practical guide on energy efficiency in buildings, including cost estimates and payback periods for each improvement measure.\nTrain and equip environmental units to empower them to engage their communities and experiment with the implementation of Energy-Climate information services in Lebanon.\n\nJoin us in this vital seminar as we work together to enhance energy efficiency in public buildings and promote sustainable practices across Lebanon.  AGENDA\n\n
