DESCRIPTION:In the context of the meetMED capacity building program aimed at empowering green finance, RCREEE, in coordination with MEDENER, organized a two-day national training focused on “Energy Efficiency and Green Buildings: Labels, MEPS & New Innovative Financing Mechanisms” on June 3-4, 2025, in Cairo, Egypt. This training is part of the meetMED II project activities, designed to enhance the capacity of banks and financial institutions in the Southern Mediterranean region.\nAcross the Southern Mediterranean region, energy efficiency (EE) and green building initiatives have become crucial for achieving national climate goals and enhancing energy security. Despite the growing technical potential in the buildings and appliances sectors, financial barriers continue to hinder large-scale adoption.Many banks and financial institutions lack the technical and economic knowledge necessary to evaluate and support EE investments, particularly those involving energy performance standards and innovative business models. This training supports the project’s broader goal of fostering low-carbon, resilient, and inclusive economies through regional cooperation.\nTraining Objectives\nThrough a combination of lectures, real-life case studies, interactive group work, and technical presentations, this tailored training is enhancing the capacity of Egypt’s financial sector to:\n\nIdentify and evaluate energy efficiency and green building investments\nUnderstand MEPS and energy labeling systems\nLeverage ESCO models, performance contracting, and blended finance to unlock capital\n\nThis training is designed for professionals from: \n\nCommercial banks and financial institutions \nDevelopment finance institutions (DFIs) \nEnergy service companies (ESCOs) \nNational energy agencies representatives \n\nThese institutions are taking strategic steps to align their portfolios with Egypt’s climate goals and sustainable development vision.\n\n\n
