Jordan National RoundTable within the Mediterranean Sustainable Energy Investment Forums Argues Financing Energy Efficiency in Building & Appliances

Amman, 7th June 2022

In the framework of the meetMED II “Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region” project funded by the European Union, MEDENER, in cooperation with RCREEE and Royal Scientific Society – National Energy Research Center (NERC), Jordan is organizing “Jordan National RoundTable within the Mediterranean Sustainable Energy Investment Forums” on June 7th, 2022 at Amman.

Despite the significant challenges & the growing commitment to make the energy sector more sustainable and efficient, several initiatives have been developed in the meetMED project that targets beneficiary countries to promote the energy transition through regional cooperation.

The purpose of the roundtable is to engage in detailed dialogue on the financing of energy efficiency in buildings and appliances with key stakeholders in Jordan in order to identify common goals and possible improvements in the national framework.

The event is bringing together around 40 participants involved in energy efficiency financing from the finance sector, national governments, EU Commission in Jordan, European Investment Bank, UN agencies, project developers, renovation supply chain and local and regional energy agencies.

The National Roundtable in Jordan – MED SEI Forums will kick off the series of five national roundtables organized within the MED SEI Forums, setting up an example to be replicated by the other countries. The participants nominated by their institutions and firms will become members of the first National SEI Network to be facilitated by NERC.

The Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region (meetMED) project is an EU-funded project, developed by the Mediterranean Association of the National Agencies for Energy Management (MEDENER) and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).

Following the success of its first phase (MEETMED I, from 2018-2020), meetMED project commences its second phase aiming to enhance the energy security of beneficiary countries (namely Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia) while fostering their transition to low carbon economy. Accordingly, meetMED II will be contributing to the creation of more stable, efficient, competitive and climate-resilient socioeconomic contexts in the targeted countries.
