meetMED Week Day 4: Monitoring Energy Efficiency & Closing Plenary

Aiming to foster regional cooperation for energy and climate transition in Southern Eastern Mediterranean Countries, Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region (meetMED) II project launches the first edition of “MEETMED WEEK” from March 28th to 31st, 2022, in Cairo, Egypt.

The event acts as a hub to gather policymakers and stakeholders to exchange experiences and discuss the next steps for the decarbonization of the region.

The first edition’s purpose is to promote the commitment of national stakeholders for meetMED II project objectives and to initiate a dialogue between high-level stakeholders.

The four-day event will focus on the following dedicated topics (one per day):
• Day 1: Sustainable Energy Investment Forum
• Day 2: Concerted Actions on Buildings
• Day 3: Concerted Actions on Appliances
• Day 4: Monitoring Energy Efficiency

Accordingly, the event will lead to strategic “take-away messages”, new guidance documents, good practices and roadmaps that will be incorporated into meetMED proceedings to support decision makers in Mediterranean Countries.

MEETMED WEEK will take place once a year for three years in different countries, with the goal to:

  • mobilize and engage national stakeholders, local authorities, private sector operators, civil society and population, at regional and local level;
  • disseminate good practices in building and appliances’ sectors;
  • facilitate the development and replication of energy efficiency measures;
  • foster the deployment of renewable energy;
  • increase public awareness and investments in these sectors.

MEETMED WEEK will become a flagship event for the Mediterranean area as a whole: an ideal place for a high-level policy dialogue where policymakers and the most relevant stakeholders will convene to exchange experiences and discuss the next steps for the decarbonization of the Region.

About Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region (meetMED) II

The Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean region (meetMED) project is an EU-funded project, developed by the Mediterranean Association of the National Agencies for Energy Management (MEDENER) and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).

Following the success of its first phase (MEETMED I, from 2018-2020), meetMED project commences its second phase aiming to enhance the energy security of beneficiary countries (namely Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia) while fostering their transition to low carbon economy. Accordingly, meetMED II will be contributing to the creation of more stable, efficient, competitive and climate-resilient socioeconomic contexts in the targeted countries.
