meetMED at MENA Climate Week 2023
Middle East and North Africa Climate Week (MENACW) 2023 takes place on 8-12 October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and is hosted by the government of Saudi Arabia.
meetMED organized an Action Track Event titled “MENA Energy Transition Trilemma: Policies, Finance, and Institutional Implementation Capacities” under Track 1 (Energy systems and industry) of the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week (MENACW) 2023. This session took place on 10 October 2023,15:00 – 16:00 Arabia Standard Time at Boulevard Riyadh City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The side event showcased the key outcomes of the EU-funded Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition – meetMED project component of access to finance and business models.
The main outcomes are as follows:
- Enhanced awareness of the region’s overall achievements in sustainable energy development, and what are the current challenges, needs, and areas for improvement and assistance at national and regional levels.
- Debating on the effectiveness of the policies currently existing in the region, where is the biggest gap, what are “the best practices in policy making”, and what is the current institutional framework/arrangement for RE and EE development.
- Facilitating a dialogue on investment opportunities for RE and EE and how to improve the visibility of existing funds, and to create innovative mechanisms and business models for the achievement of NDCs.
