Objectives of the session:
The building sector is considered one of the main consumers for energy in MENA region where many initiatives have identified that appliances could contribute significantly for efficient energy consumption. Energy efficiency in the Appliances sector could indeed be achieved by introducing a regional EE label for appliances along with implementing small-scale appliances’ scrapping campaigns and boosting the demand for energy efficient equipment through a better visibility for grand public and private sector operators.
In line with the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, the event focused on the appliances MEPS and labelling, scrapping and awareness raising for the meetMED beneficiary countries (Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, and Algeria). This session also shed light on the awareness of regional guidelines for households in appliances and the sharing of Tunisian best practices.
During the session, the meetMED project launched the first awareness-raising campaign that aims at generating awareness among the end users to save energy during and beyond today’s energy crisis, including a number of minor and doable energy-efficient behaviors in our daily life. By following such tips, consumers can save money by reducing energy consumption, thereby, electricity bills whilst protecting the environment.
