Paris – 06 October 2023
The meetMED project, as well as the PEEB-Med program, were invited to participate in a TAIEX workshop (Technical Assistance & Information Exchange, capacity transfer instrument financed by the CE) co-organized by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and by the French Ministry of Environment on October 4-5-6, 2023 in Paris, France. The meetMED project was presented during the first “High-Level” day, seizing the opportunity to recall the role of Energy Management Agencies in the promotion of EE in buildings, as well as the role of the network of MEDENER Agencies in bringing these objectives to the regional scale, in particular through the meetMED project and its workstream related to the formulation of recommendations of policies and strategies to improve and harmonize the regulatory framework for energy in buildings in its South Mediterranean beneficiary countries. The meetMED and PEEB-Med representants also presented to the participants the ongoing cooperation between the two projects in order to identify, in close coordination with country stakeholders (agencies, Ministries), building renovation/construction projects that integrate the principles of EE (meetMED) and which could benefit from PEEB-Med funding. The “Building Breakthrough” initiative, supported by the French Ministry of Environment and by GlobalABC, was also presented, intending to engage States and reach countries’ commitment during the coming COP28-Building Breakthrough initiative launching event, and in the perspective of another international event, the World Building and Climate Forum, which will take place in Paris in March 2024 (organized by the French Government and UNEP). The topics of sustainable development, bio-sourced materials, and the renovation of built heritage, were explored in depth during site visits (site of the Olympic Village, in particular the sector developed by Eiffage, visit to the central and renovated districts of the Marais, visit to the Cloud Towers in Nanterre). Interventions from the Ministry of Culture (Heritage sites), the ANRU, and the Paris Climate Agency also took place.
