meetMED Final Event

The meetMED Project Final Event took place on 23-24 June 2025 in Brussels, marking the culmination of four years of innovative work aimed at fostering energy efficiency measures in buildings and appliances across eight beneficiary countries. This significant event gathered national agencies, climate and energy experts, regional institutions, and engaged stakeholders to share the results of the project’s efforts and discuss future steps for promoting energy and climate transition in the Mediterranean region.

  • Advance energy efficiency, sustainable cities, and climate mitigation
  • Strengthen regional cooperation for a just and inclusive energy transition
  • Shape priorities for meetMED III

Over the two days, participants explored the progress made in developing innovative solutions to enhance the implementation of energy efficiency (EE) measures and improve countries’ energy mix, particularly in the building and appliances sectors.

The meetMED Final Event took place LIVE from Brussels over two days and include both strategic and technical sessions:

Day 1 – High-Level Strategic Session

  • Roundtable 1: Regional Strategies for Energy Efficiency and Governance This session addressed national frameworks, institutional reforms, and financing mechanisms for scaling up EE and RE. Bringing together European and Mediterranean actors working to align strategies, policies, and market incentives.
  • Roundtable 2: Energy Efficiency in Buildings – From Policy to Implementation This roundtable highlighted technical and operational pathways for implementing EE measures in buildings, with contributions from national agencies and experts involved in sectoral reform, regulation, and energy performance upgrades.
  • Roundtable 3: Empowering Local Authorities – The Road to meetMED III A forward-looking session focused on decentralization, multi-level governance, and empowering municipalities; addressing SECAPs, access to finance, capacity building, and local engagement in the green transition. Each roundtable will feature contributions from the European Commission, MEDENER, RCREEE, national energy agencies, and key regional stakeholders.

Day 2 – Technical Session

The second day showcased technical outputs and lessons learned during the implementation of meetMED II. Experts and partners presented concrete tools, platforms, methodologies, and pilot initiatives.Topics included:
  • Concerted actions for building sector efficiency
  • Digital platforms and tools developed under meetMED II
  • Energy efficiency policy monitoring frameworks
  • Financing models and capacity building for local and national actors
  • Energy–Water Nexus: policy and implementation insights This session supports replication and provides actionable inputs for future programming under meetMED III and EU–Southern Neighbourhood cooperation.

The event featured insightful presentations, panel discussions, and case studies that highlight key achievements and the real-world impact of the project’s initiatives. Additionally, there were ample opportunities for networking, collaboration, and idea exchange, creating a platform for meaningful conversations and partnerships.
