The meetMED project, funded by the European Union, and supported by  the Mediterranean Association of National Agencies for Energy Management (MEDENER) & the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), organized and a joint workshop in close collaboration with  MEDREG – Mediterranean Energy Regulators and held a national consultation mission on the sidelines of Beirut Energy Week 2023 held from 20 to 22 September 2023 at Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh, Beirut, Lebanon. The Beirut Energy Week 2023 is an exceptional event focused on all elements of the green energy transitions that most countries are witnessing and gathers more than 700 delegates and 25 targeted sessions. Our participation was initiated by consultation meetings as part of the project’s objectives to facilitate access to finance for efficient buildings and equipment by addressing the needs gaps between banks, financial partners, institutions, and public and private operators.

We were delighted to meet H.E. Nasser Yassin the Lebanese Minister of Environment, and representatives from BLC Bank, Credit Bank, and MEAB bank. The discussions centered around making acquaintance with the methods for improving the visibility of existing funds, as well as creating innovative mechanisms for funding projects.

On September 22, meetMED co-organized a workshop entitled “The Role of Energy Efficiency in the Energy Transition Process” jointly with  MEDREG – Mediterranean Energy Regulators, (MEDENER) and (RCREEE). Bringing together key stakeholders from the Mediterranean region to discuss and explore the potential of energy efficiency and electric mobility in fostering sustainable practices. In addition to addressing the issues related to access to finance and de-risking investments for energy efficiency in the southern Mediterranean countries.

The high-level panel discussions and interactive sessions focused on the role of National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) and National Agencies for Energy Management in promoting energy efficiency, enhancing access to finance for energy efficiency project developers and owners from different financing institutions, and the development of electric mobility and the facilitation of its deployment through incentives and regulatory frameworks. The workshop aims to create a platform for fruitful discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking among experts, policymakers, regulators, financing institutions, and industry professionals in the field of energy efficiency and e-mobility in the Mediterranean region. The outcomes of the workshop will contribute to fostering sustainable practices and driving the transition towards a low-carbon future.
