meetMED Participates at Building and Climate Global Forum in France

With the ongoing commitment of the meetMED project funded by the European Union, to fostering energy efficiency measures in the building sector, we are fortunate to announce our participation atBuildings and Climate Global Forum” that takes place on 7-8th March 2024 in Palais des Congrès, Paris (France).

The two-day forum is co-organised by France and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with the support of the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC).

Bringing together ministers and high-level representatives of key organisations in an effort to spur the decarbonisation and resilience of the buildings sector. The event is the first of its kind and will follow up on progress made at the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference(COP28). The forum follows the successful launch of the Buildings Breakthrough at COP28. That initiative supported by 28 governments and the European Commission, among others, aspires to make near-zero-emission and resilient buildings the new normal by 2030.

The meetMED delegation joined a high-level meeting on Sustainable Construction in the Euro-Mediterranean Region, held on March 7th on the sidelines of the forum, to promote bilateral cooperation between EU and non-EU countries.

The meeting has been organized jointly by meetMED and PEEB-Med (Program on Energy Efficiency in Buildings) with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) to share the main findings on policy improvements in the building sector in southern Mediterranean countries. It will follow up on the two TAIEX Regional Workshops on Energy Efficiency in Buildings that took place in Madrid in 2022, and in Paris in 2023, hosted by Spanish and French authorities respectively. The objective of this high-level meeting is to highlight EU support for sustainable buildings in the region, share the progress of the different existing initiatives, and showcase good examples of programmes implemented at a national level. In addition, encourage bilateral cooperation among countries by implementing existing capacity building and twinning programs to address specific needs. This event should also reconfirm the willingness of Euro-Mediterranean countries to join forces to advance into more sustainable buildings in the region, following the UfM Ministerial Declaration of Zagreb adopted in May 2023.
