meetMED Twinning Cities Study Tour in Tata

In the context of meetMED Twinning Cities Agreements, the Moroccan Agency For Energy Efficiency (AMEE) in coordination with the municipality of Tata hosted a two-day study visit on 04-05 June 2024 in Morocco, attended by official delegations representing the municipalities of Palmela (Portugal) and Málaga (Spain), he Spanish Government’s Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), and the Portuguese Agency for Energy (ADENE).

On the first day the technical sessions provided a productive start to the discussions, setting the stage for a collaborative exchange of knowledge and best practices around Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) development in the participating municipalities.

The welcome remarks by Bara Outsaghourte, the President of the Commune of Tata centered around the municipality’s efforts to develop a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) and emphasized Tata’s commitment to addressing energy and climate challenges facing the community.

The representatives from Málaga and Palmela acknowledged the valuable opportunity to share their experiences and insights from developing their own (SECAP) plans, while AMEE further discussed the key elements and best practices that cities should consider.

The session took place at the Centre d’Insertion des Personnes en Situation de Handicap, which plays an important role in the Tata community by providing free services like training, special education, and physiotherapy to people with disabilities. The centre is also energy efficient, with recently installed solar PV panels on the roof.

Tata is working with two partners, the Moroccan Association of Mayors (AMPCC) and the Clima-Med project Funded by the European Union, to develop its SECAP plan.

During the second day, participants visited Centre d’Information en Enérgie (CIE), a space dedicated to promoting energy literacy and awareness among the general public in Tata, with a bioclimatic structure built using local materials and ancient techniques, making it a sustainable and energy-efficient facility. Followed by a conclusion working session, during which each participating municipality (Tata, Málaga, and Palmela) presented local projects related to the focus topic of Energy Efficiency in Buildings.
