Water-Energy Nexus Webinar

As part of the meetMED project’s Regional Capacity Development Program on Water-Energy Nexus, MEDENER in close collaboration with the Portuguese Energy Agency (ADENE) is organizing a training webinar focused on Water- Energy Nexus on 2nd of June 2025 at 13:30 CET.

The Mediterranean region faces acute water scarcity, affecting 60% of its population — particularly in the southern and eastern areas — where over 20 million people still lack access to drinking water. Population growth, industrialization, and the impacts of climate change are intensifying pressure on water resources, which are vital not only for human consumption and agriculture but also for energy production. Efficient water demand management is therefore essential to ensure resource availability across sectors.

In this context, the Water-Energy Nexus offers an integrated approach that enhances resource efficiency, reduces the energy sector’s vulnerability to climate-related risks, and supports broader sustainability and decarbonization goals.

This webinar will address the topic of water-energy nexus in buildings and will present a tool developed as part of an activity of the meetMED II project – the Water-Energy Nexus Evaluation Methodology for the Mediterranean Basin – which evaluates and promotes measures that reduce both water and energy consumption while enhancing resilience to climate change.

Participants will gain insights into the multiple benefits of applying the Water-Energy Nexus methodology, aimed at energy and water efficiency experts.
